Our Activities & Events

In addition to connecting volunteers with compatible organizations, the Volunteer Center conducts many events throughout the year to aid the community. We coordinate a volunteer appreciation ceremony, several food drives, a program to provide children with school supplies, our annual fundraising event, and other services to the Nassau County community.

Volunteer Awards Luncheon

We honor all county volunteers during National Volunteer Week. Volunteer awards are given by various governmental entities, business, and nonprofit organizations, including the four Elsie Harper City of Fernandina Beach awards. This event is always well-attended by representatives from businesses, churches, government, and nonprofit organizations.

GOKIDS School Supply Drive

Organized by the Corporate Volunteer Council of the Volunteer Center, the school supply drive annually raises over $10,000 worth of school supplies and donations for needy Nassau County Public School students in all 16 Nassau County schools.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive

In partnership with twelve Girl Scout troops, this event annually brings in enough peanut butter and jelly to make more than 3,500 sandwiches! The donations are distributed to the Barnabas Center, the Head Start centers in Nassau County, the Council on Aging, and the Salvation Army Hope House. This is just one of several food drives throughout the year.

Taste of Amelia Island
Our Major Annual Fundraiser

Each year, the Nassau County Volunteer Center has the privilege of bringing together the island’s finest Chefs to celebrate the amazing culinary talents of Amelia Island, while raising funds to continue our volunteer recruitment and other in-house programs that benefit Nassau County’s most needy.

Taste attendees enjoy a “taste” of the signature flavors and dishes of each Chef, complimented by a selection of fine wines, great music, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. This year’s re-branded 25th Anniversary event offered attendees the opportunity to vote on the first-ever “Best Dish of the Taste”. With more new restaurants coming to Amelia Island in 2017, the Taste just keeps getting better and better.

Congratulations to this year’s winner of “Best Dish of the Taste” – Chef Jose Salome – 29 South!

Adopt-A-Family Wishlist Program

Each year this program typically serves 100 families in need of holiday assistance with gifts, gift cards, and food. Additionally, the Volunteer Center partners with Toys for Tots, providing toys for many hundreds of Nassau County children. Many donor groups (churches, businesses, civic groups) and thousands of volunteers make this program a reality.
