Our Activities & Events

In addition to connecting volunteers with compatible organizations, the Volunteer Center conducts many events throughout the year to aid the community. We coordinate a volunteer appreciation ceremony, several food drives, a program to provide children with school supplies, our annual fundraising event, and other services to the Nassau County community.

Volunteer Awards Luncheon

We honor all county volunteers during National Volunteer Week. Volunteer awards are given by various governmental entities, business, and nonprofit organizations, including the four Elsie Harper City of Fernandina Beach awards. This event is always well-attended by representatives from businesses, churches, government, and nonprofit organizations.

GOKIDS School Supply Drive

Organized by the Corporate Volunteer Council of the Volunteer Center, this annual school supply drive raises over $10,000 worth of school supplies each year for the neediest Nassau County Public School students in all 16 Nassau County schools.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive

In partnership with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, this annual drive brings in enough peanut butter and jelly to make more than 3,500 sandwiches each year! The donations are distributed to the Barnabas Center, the Head Start centers in Nassau County, the Council on Aging, and the Salvation Army Hope House.

Taste of Amelia Island
Our Major Annual Fundraiser

Each year, the Nassau County Volunteer Center has the privilege of bringing together the island’s finest Chefs to celebrate the amazing culinary talents of Amelia Island, while raising funds to continue our volunteer recruitment and other in-house programs that benefit Nassau County’s most needy.

Taste attendees enjoy a “taste” of the signature flavors and dishes of each Chef, complimented by a selection of fine wines, live Chef demo, live music, 50/50 raffle, and the chance to vote for their choice for Best Dish of the Taste.

This year’s Taste saw the largest number of participating Chefs and the event’s first-ever “Guest Chef Judges Choice” or Best Dish. The Taste just keeps getting better and better.

Congratulations to this year’s winners:

People’s Choice Best Dish of the Taste – Chef Jose Salome – 29  South

Guest Chef Judges’ Choice – Best Dish – White Oak Conservation Culinary Team, Chef Bob McKeon

Adopt-A-Family Wishlist Program

The Adopt-A-Family program, in its 28th year, is the original Christmas program in Nassau County, Florida, matching adopters with families, seniors, and individuals most in need as identified by our non-profit partners throughout the County.  Donors provide Christmas gifts and food to those who would, otherwise, go without at this, often, difficult time of year for many.  Last year we increased the number of families and individuals served from 115 to over 350.
